Camp Hemlock
Senior BFA Project
Camp Hemlock is a riff off of stereotypes in the horror genre while providing a more unique twist. Main characters Ruby and Nat discover a supernatural secret in a secluded cabin in the woods of Camp Hemlock where they work.
The Animation
Storyboards and Concept Art
Left - First Page of the initial storyboards.
Starting out I had a larger
idea for an establishing plot line building up to the ghost encounter at the end. I planned to show various scenes of Ruby and Nat at the camp looking for ghosts and finding nothing, to build suspense.
Right - Initial Character Concept Art
Originally the characters had much
simpler clothing and tighter lines. After receiving critique I decided to stick to a looser style and add more details to their clothing, which can be seen below.
Below - Emily Concept Art
I played around a lot with colors
to capture Emily's ghost form. I also looked into period accurate clothing for her, as she's from the 1970s.

Above - Final Character Art
I ended up with a looser style that gave each character more personal flair. The looser lineart also helped the animation process to be a bit easier as well.
Background Design
Animation Test
Animation Test - Metamorphosis
When animating this scene I wanted to focus on the background details and ways of building suspense through what is barely visible. This ended up being the consistent style throughout the animation.
